Battle Reenactment

Students will create a stop-motion video about a historic battle.

Objective

To gain a better understanding of the world we live in and to become effective citizens, students need to study the past. For example, the Battle of Gettysburg is considered to be the turning point in the U.S. Civil War. Students will produce a stop-motion video that analyzes the significant events leading up to the battle, the battle, and Lincoln’s historic speech.

Ideal group size 2 or 3 students
Time to complete 2 class periods

Activity

  1. Student partners will need to write and sketch out the storyline for this project.
  2. Students can use a combination of images, text, audio, and props to create the stop-motion video. They will need to edit and create appropriate transitions for each image.
  3. The student movies must present an accurate timeline and include historically correct information about the significant events surrounding the Battle of Gettysburg.
  4. After sharing their movies, students can write movie reviews to provide feedback to other moviemakers.
